The British Guild of Beer Writers

I’m delighted I’ve been accepted into The British Guild of Beer Writers as an Associate Member. The British Guild of Beer Writers was formed in 1988 to help spread the word about beers, brewing and pubs, and our website is dedicated to precisely that pursuit.

In it, you will find listed the cream of the country’s beer media experts – be they journalists, authors, producers, photographers, illustrators or PR people. Somewhere in these pages, you will find a beer professional who can answer any questions you have, produce any articles you need, take any photos you require and generally inform you about any aspects of this popular and extraordinary product.

Supporters of the Guild include brewers, pub companies, and many suppliers associated with the brewing trade. They, too, are listed in our corporate member’s page.

Beer is a subject extraordinarily well served by its affiliated journalists, in whatever media they operate. The quality of writing of beer journalists and the broad social canvas open which they sketch are remarkable.

The Guild hopes that the public is given every opportunity to learn this and first hand from its members – and that the public can read, listen and view as frequently as possible how beer is flourishing in Britain today

Our Objectives are

To promote excellence in beer and pub communications – including (but not limited to) publishing, editing, writing, broadcasting, lobbying, creating digital content, social posting, marketing, designing, photographing, organizing events, presenting, taste tutoring and beer judging

To help educate, inform and inspire consumers and members of the industry about beer and pubs

To support beer communicators in their professional and skills development

To enhance the reputation of Guild membership, to support the creation of work opportunities for members, and promoting within and beyond the industry the desirability of employing or contracting Guild members for beer and pub communication work

What do you like most about being a Guild of Beer Writers member?
Beer, pubs and breweries have always been part of our lives. Like never before, we need to support the beer community and related industry.

As our Chair, Pete Brown, said: “The Guild exists to help its members communicate about beer”. I consider communication essential – staying connected is vital. We all need to take considered action and be creative and make our communities better. The Guild is helping us to maximize the opportunity to become the best beer communicator you can be.
