Art & Craft x Signature Brew (2021)

In September 2021, What’s In The Glass? was invited by Art & Craft Collective for an incredible event at Signature Brew Haggerston – an evening of art and craft beer!
It was an opportunity for the community to reunite after a long year and to celebrate the return of craft beer and live events!

All artists work in the craft beer industry in London and their artworks range from illustration, to contemporary dance, music, photography, film, painting, metal work and more… Signature Brew have always championed creativity and collaborated with musicians for many years, so that it was the ideal venue for such an event.

WITG? was there to present Turning The Tide, our open miniseries, but also filming the show, conducting interviews with the artists and the organisers.

Polly (Paultergeist Photography)

Polly is the founder of Paultergeist Photography, specialises in photographing gigs, cycling and portraits. With her dynamic photography series “The Cancelled Series“, Polly took to the streets, balconies and door stoops of London during the pandemic to photograph performers ranging from burlesque, musicians and more who had all their events cancelled and stayed at home. You could see them in their full performance costumes getting to shine in their own London localities.
Polly also manages Solvay Society, a brewery and taproom in East London specialising in Belgian beer.

Sam (Perplexed Perspective)

Sam is the founder of Perplexed Perspective, an outlet for his creativity since 2013, the year before he started in the craft beer world. Perplexed Perspective also designed Art & Craft logo and is a repeat collaborator of the collective. Sam currently works at the Brave Sir Robin, a Scandinavian influenced craft beer pub in North London, where he has also recently curated some artworks from colleagues old and new, an all round busy creator.

Ali & Annabel (Melt Agency)

Bored by what was available on the eco market, Ali and Annabel have set out to create a sustainable line of must-have products but don’t compromise on sexiness.
The result is Melt Agency: from astrological themed beeswax wraps featuring Riri, Britney and Cher to their motto «lovers come and go, but the earth is forever» to their new sleek design, there’s something for everyone. They also showed mixed media art, and their installation and curation played on the senses — from touch, smell to visual, there was a lot to play with and experience.
Ali, one half of the project, currently works at the Duke of York in Haggerston (East London).

Founded in 2017 by student Melanie Xulu, MOOF covers a wide array of music, culture and art. The magazine has amassed a worldwide following and loyal readership and is currently stocked in the UK and USA. Inspired by the acid-drenched countercultural magazines of the 60s/70s, such as Oz and Gandalf’s Garden, MOOF aims to keep the underground press alive and weird. She is a well rounded creative, editing and designing the issues of her psychedelic inspired mag and regularly DJing for Soho Radio.
Melanie currently works at Solvay Society, a brewery and taproom in East London specialising in Belgian beer.
